Opening Day - Rec Center

Last school year, our Rec Center wasn't open regularly, due to a lack of interns to staff it. This year, however, we have a trio of energetic interns, and they hosted "Opening Day" of Rec Center yesterday. At first, it was a slim crowd -- just this little guy jumping his heart out!

Others began to trickle in, though, after stops at home to drop off back packs and obtain permission to come back to play for awhile.

There was a homework station....

and some crafty fun, too (pictured is our newest intern, Alexa Overholt, from Ohio).

Rec Center will continue throughout the school year, each Tuesday and Thursday afternoon, and is open to all school-age children and teens.

You may have heard of him

-His middle name is Emilio.

-He's a Cuban-American.

-He's a father of triplets.

And here's where things get a little more interesting:

-He's played for the Houston Astros, the Chicago Cubs, the Detroit Tigers, the Arizona Diamondbacks, the LA Dodgers, and the Florida Marlins.

-He played in the 2001 World Series, and his team happened to win the World Series that year, too.

-A piece of gum chewed by him during a spring training game was sold for $10,000.

-He's the first Diamondbacks player to have his number retired.

And one more fact:

-He will be the guest speaker at Aim Right's Dinner Banquet this fall, on November 2nd.

First Kids Klub

Last Wednesday evening was our first Kids Klub after summer break.  The children were excited and ready to come again.  Of the 60-65 children that were there, the girls outnumbered the boys by a large margin.  We also saw quite a few new faces; children must have invited friends since we hadn't intentionally recruited new children (but they're always welcome!).

Joel and the interns did a skit for the children.  The photo of the bus below doesn't do it justice.  Interns designed and "built" the cardboard bus, and in my opinion, it's quite a happy little bus!

Please pray for wisdom and extra helpers for our Kids Klub program; with a lot of "high energy" kiddos, it can be a challenge to maintain order and quietness, but we want to have an environment where His truth can be taught -- and caught, too.

Retreat & Yard Sale Preview

Retreat: a period of seclusion, especially for religious contemplation.

Over the weekend, ministry workers from Prodigal's Home, Paradise Valley Kids Church, and Aim Right enjoyed a refreshing, challenging retreat in Payson at Mountain Meadows Ranch. Sessions included the topics below.

Interns have been busy preparing for a large yard sale that we'll host this Friday morning, Sept. 13th. We have many quality items, from sports gear, to like-new shoes, electronics gadgets, clothing, children's books, nice linens, and some brand-new, still-in-the-package items. We will open early (7ish) so stop by the corner of 13th and Roosevelt for some bargains if you're nearby. We appreciate the generosity of all those who donate towards our yard sales.

Merry Christmas in September

You know you have some exceptionally organized, plan-ahead type of interns when they're already decorating the yard for Christmas when it's barely September. And it's no small-scale decorating scheme either.

Oh the fun you can have when sorting through donated yard sale items! If you're interested in this inflatable creature that is sure to spread some holiday cheer to the neighborhood, well...get in touch with us.
We even discussed a "rotating reindeer" plan, similar to the flamingos-in-the-yard joke. Pay a fee, give us an address, and we'll make sure that Mr. Reindeer is inflated and placed in the yard of your choice.
