Team FUN 3.30.12

Team FUN met on Friday evening to learn about respect. Probably one of the more meaningful exercises for the teens involved completing statements such as these:
"I show respect for my parents when I ....."
or
"I show disrespect for my teachers when I ....."

Kick ball is a favorite recess activity at Tutoring, and yesterday evening some neighborhood kids joined in the fun as well. Kids kick and run, while the adults usually do the fielding. Who needs bases when you have trees?

A RECENT PRAISE: Two youth accepted Christ at a Youth Haven teen retreat last weekend.

PRAY FOR EVAN: He will be flying to Ohio next week to represent Aim Right at Rosedale Bible College's Missions Conference.

PRAY FOR NEW INTERNS: One of the reasons we try to send a representative to the RBC event is to raise awareness about the ministry opportunities Aim Right has for young adults. If you or someone you know might be interested in being an intern, we do have an immediate need for male and female interns to apply (you can download an application here).

AN EASTER PROGRAM: We're trying something new! Each Kids Klub class has been preparing for an Easter program on Wednesday, April 4th. Parents will receive an invitation to attend, and there'll be skits, songs, poems, and refreshments. Please pray that the children will be cooperative, that parents will attend, and that the program will honor and celebrate Jesus. You're welcome to join us as well, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on April 4.

SUMMER OPPORTUNITY: Space is still open for youth groups who may be interested in a summer missions experience leading VBS and participating in other types of urban outreach in Phoenix. We can't promise you a nice cool breeze, but we can assure you it will be an opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus. E-mail amy@aimright.org for more information.

Last week it was bulk trash time in the neighborhood, which meant residents could set out items that don't fit in a typical trash container, and the City of Phoenix waste service scheduled collection of such items.

The sides of many streets were littered with an assortment of broken furniture and odds and ends that may not have even met the guidelines of "bulk trash," sometimes spilling over into the sidewalks as well. You'd find curious children or adults digging through the piles in search of a treasure, with dogs ripping out the stuffing in old couches and recliners. Not a pretty sight!


In Philippians 3:18, Paul wrote, "Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For His sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ."

What do you need to put in your "garbage can" so that Christ can be known more fully in your life?

The corner of 13th & Roosevelt has been a flurry of activity! Having an auction might've had something to do with that. We thank God that proceeds from the auction totaled over $18,000.

Another praise report (on a much grander scale!):
A.J. & Jewel Miller have been leading a Good News Club at a public elementary school in the Sunnyslope area. At the close of a recent club meeting, a girl came up to Jewel and asked, "Are you saved?" Jewel replied, "Well, yes, I am! Would you like to be saved, too?" They talked some more, and then Jewel was able to pray with the girl to receive Christ as her Savior.

Good News Club? I'd say so!

Over the weekend, several youth participated in the 30 Hour Famine and raised over $325 for World Vision. They also delivered food boxes to needy families in the community and picked up trash in the neighborhood.

I want to give praise to God for a "divine appointment" He orchestrated this past Tuesday. As I approached the final stop on my Kids Klub visitation route, I noticed a car pull up in front of the house. The driver happened to be the Older Sister of the children who live in the house. Years ago, she was active in coming to Teen Night and Bible study, but I'd lost touch with her when her parents split up and moved out of the community. Mom and the younger children are now living in the area again, but Older Sister still lives further away.

In our brief conversation, I could tell that Older Sister has some regrets. She realizes that she "needs God in her life." She "wants to move back, start going to church again." And she's been down quite a road; it's never easy when your parents divorce.

While we stood on the sidewalk, I prayed for her -- that she would realize that God can give her a new start, that He will forgive.

She said she needed that.

Isn't it a good reminder for us all? Go to God for a fresh start.

"The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in mercy. He will not always strive with us, nor will He keep His anger forever. He has not dealt with us according to our sins, nor punished us according to our iniquities. For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is His mercy toward those who fear Him. As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us." Psalm 103:8-12

This morning I (Amy) am blogging from Oklahoma. It was 11 days ago that I called my mom's cell phone on a Saturday afternoon, expecting to have our usual weekend phone chat. My brother answered the phone, which was odd in itself, but it was his words that shocked me to the core: "Dad just died. Dad is gone." After confirming that this was not a joke and gathering a few more details about the accidental death, I began to act upon my brother's plea: "Buy a plane ticket and get home as fast as you can."

The rest has been a bit of a whirlwind -- hurriedly packing, boarding a plane, planning a funeral, writing an obituary, choosing a gravestone, and helping Mom wade through a myriad of legal and financial details.

Some of the most precious cards I've received are from the Aim Right family. Several teens who attended Impact Group on Feb. 13th made hand-made cards with reminders like "Just know God is with you" ...... "I pray for you every day" ...... "God will not leave you alone" ......"We all love you and care about you." And I can't forget the group of Aim Right'ers that traveled many, many hours in a van to attend the service!

Through this hard time, God has been surrounding my family with His comfort and love through His beautiful people. Thank you for your prayers!
