A Birthday

While it doesn't always suit to celebrate every teen's birthday in a grand way, we try to do something special, especially when a birthday falls on the same day as a program that the teen routinely attends. Jose (aka Pepito, in the black shirt) had a birthday on Monday, so we celebrated after Bible study with pizza, cake, and ice cream.

We first learned to know Pepito when the local elementary school referred him to us for tutoring -- probably in the 2nd or 3rd grade. Since then, he's regularly attended Kids Klub, VBS, Youth Haven, and now teen programs. There was a time we weren't offering transportation to Kids Klub from the area where Pepito lived, and he would faithfully walk several blocks to Kids Klub each week. We're blessed to know this respectful and good-natured young man.
