Water Games

When you're planning a fun night for children, and it's over 100 degrees, you can't go wrong with water games!  I couldn't make it to all of the different stations to take photos, but you can get an idea of some of the activities we had for the children.  It seemed to be a pretty low-key van ride when we took children home afterwards; I think they were worn out, wet, and maybe even a little cold!

Kids Klub will now be on hold until September, as we focus on some special summer programs.  Heroes Headquarters VBS kicks off June 18th, and interns will be helping Paradise Valley Mennonite Church with their Wednesday evening kids ministry for several weeks throughout June and July.  The free summer breakfast and lunch program we are hosting Monday through Friday began today.

Please pray for a fruitful summer with lives impacted for the glory of His name!

Kids Klub 5.23.12

Kids learned about Jesus' power over evil spirits at Kids Klub on Wednesday. Afterwards there were requests to play Red Rover, so.....we did!

Ro-Ro came to Kids Klub with Daddy and enjoyed some time at the microphone!

Tutoring Finale

Tutoring concluded yesterday evening.  Students enjoyed a Scavenger Hunt looking for items they had to read about in some of their favorite books.  Tutors also re-tested students in their reading speed and accuracy, giving students the same one-minute exam they had taken in January.  Many students showed remarkable improvements.  We are thankful for this hard-working bunch of kiddos!

Caleb & Stephanie Reed and interns Laura, Tiffany, and Evan will be traveling to the Los Angeles area tomorrow to participate in a training conference through the Urban Youth Worker's Institute.  The conference will be held on the beautiful campus of Azusa Pacific University.  Probably one thing that makes this particular conference unique is the fact that the majority of the workshop presenters are youth workers who have been working with unchurched urban youth in less-than-desirable areas of major cities.

Please pray for safe travel and a refreshing, challenging time of learning for our Aim Right group!

Inaugural First Friday 5. 04.12

Here are some photos from Aim Right's "first" First Friday event.  Teens especially enjoyed the art walls.

Music groups Faith by Fire and Aim Right's own Sanctum Band performed live music from 7-10 p.m.

The snack bar sold snacks, cold drinks, and pizza by the slice.

Our next First Friday event will be June 1st.  Come check it out!

A visit from Youth Haven

God blessed us with a special treat at Kids Klub yesterday evening.  Five staff members from Youth Haven Ranch came to tell kids about their summer camp program and also kept the children entertained with some ultra-fun games (Phoenix had a rare stormy and rainy evening, so we were stuck inside).  The grand finale was lots of yummy pizza from Papa John's!  THANKS, YOUTH HAVEN!

The van was vandalized over the weekend, and the little thing called the ignition bore the brunt of the unsuccessful theft attempt.  So the van got to take a trip to the mechanic!

Now we have a brand-new ignition and brand-new keys!

Here are few photos from Friday's Teen Night:

 Teens love the painting table.

The prayer box where youth place prayer requests they'd like staff to remember:
Evan & Laura served up a teen favorite -- NACHOS!

The topic of the evening was bullying.  Here is Caleb sharing.

God laid it on this teen's heart to tell about a friend of hers who recently committed suicide.  She challenged youth to think about the words they're saying to their friends & classmates -- to be a group that builds others up, rather than tearing others down to the point that they might consider suicide.

Caleb closed with this video, calling teens to be agents of change in their city.
"For greater things have yet to come,
and greater things are still to be done in this city."
